Lighthouse Point Library has a long history of partnering with universities and colleges throughout the United States to host student internships. Past university partners include Wayne State, Florida Atlantic, Syracuse, Fort Hays State, Florida State, Rutgers, and the University of South Florida. Past interns have had a variety of majors including education, English, public administration, library science, and data/information science.
This application is for university and college students ages 18 and over who are seeking a professional internship for school credit. This form must be submitted a minimum of 12 weeks before the student wishes to start their internship. All internship applicants must complete an in-person interview at the Library after which a full background check through the City Police Department is required. The Library strongly encourages students to request their internship through both their school and the Library as far in advance as possible. Since the Library hosts a limited number of internships each semester, not all applicants may receive a spot in the semester they request. Library internships are unpaid volunteer positions. All required paperwork, reporting, and deadlines for the university and school credit are the responsibility of the student.
